April 2002 NewsletterHampton Road Section 1114 April Meeting Announcement Tom will provide an overview of the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System Standards and provide suggestions on ways to streamline implementation. Tom will also discuss integrating the Environmental Management System and the Quality Management System. This event, to be held at Carmela's in Hampton on Wednesday, April 17 is $15. Tom Welch is a senior consultant with Booze Allen & Hamilton (BAH) where he specializes in helping organizations reduce the burden, expenses and hassles of maintaining environmental compliance through the implementation of waste minimization techniques and Environmental Management System (EMS) implementation. Tom's client list includes numerous Fortune 500 firms in the steel, chemical, pharmaceutical, automotive and petroleum industries as well as federal agencies. Tom has over 20 years of experience in the civil and environmental engineering and is a registered Professional Engineer (PE), a Registered Environmental Engineer (REM), and a RAB certified environmental auditor. editor) Cliff Blackwood of Northrop Grumman Newport News has agreed to stay on as Secretary and, unfortunately for me, no one has come to me to ask to be chair of the section. So I guess you have me again for next year. This slate of officers will service from July 2002 to June 2003. We will have elections for the Vice-Chair and Treasurer at our April 17th meeting at Carmela's (Good program—ISO 14000!). We will have an acclimation vote for these positions. Of course, if you are still interested in any of these positions, there is still time to be a candidate. Please contact me ASAP. Speaking of positions, we will have a need for a newsletter editor, education chair (manage our certificate review courses) and programs chair (here's your opportunity to choose the meeting topics) starting in July. We gladly accept all volunteers. Next month, there is a 70% probability in a plant tour with the Tidewater section. We would be visiting Johnson Controls in Chesapeake. Plant tour would be after the Memorial Day weekend (last week of May). We should have more details coming. Hope to see you soon!
