April 2003 NewsletterHampton Road Section 1114 MOTTO: BACK TO BASICS Mission Statement _____________________________________________________________________ April Meeting Announcement What do the following workplace behaviors have in common? They are all potential signs that an organization has a self-esteem problem, more specifically a recognition problem. According to Abraham Maslow, one of the highest-level motivators is self-esteem. People with healthy self-esteem are confident in their ability to deal with challenges and change. They respect themselves and others. Self-esteem is about self-image and it plays a major role in our professional success and social relationships. So how does that fit in with recognition? A planned, well-balanced recognition strategy builds and supports the self-esteem of an organization's employees. Recognizing individual talent, ability, achievement, and contributions, helps build and maintain healthy individual self-esteem. Ultimately, it can build a healthy organizational self-image that leads to profits, productivity, and success. If we follow ten basic recognition principles, we can help people and companies learn to feel good about themselves. Todd P.
