Call or e-mail Joyce Jenkins, 881-6863 or jjenkins@cvi.canon.com Message from the Chair I want to thank the fine folks at Canon. I provided them an initial draft of this message and they gave me some excellent advice and feedback. Thanks! We face a lot of challenges in our life, trying to keep a personal and professional life going. I know it is hard to commit to things when more and more is being asked of you at work and at home. Let me provide some more "mud for your mud pile." I am often asked about review courses for ASQ certifications and when the section is going to have them. Unfortunately, our Education chair had to move to another job in Georgia, which leaves me "being responsible." The past 2 review courses that the section has sponsored I have taught. Before that, Mike Mead did the bulk of the teaching, with help from Ted Albrecht. There are no other instructors who have volunteered to teach. Right now, I am the only one who teaches. I have a full-time job teaching college students and I have two kids, a wife, and a house to deal with. Yeah, I am paid for what I do. But I sure would like to say NO to my fellow quality professionals and know that there is someone else willing to help. George Archer and Dayton Ward are two unsung volunteers for this section. They handle the certification test proctoring and the re-certification processes respectively. They have been doing it for quite some time. George often asks for help to proctor exams. Dayton fills a special role because he is required to be a senior member of the society (and he is) to be able to do what he does. What if Dayton decides he has had enough? Who will do his job when there are no other senior members (and there are 3 in the section) willing to do his job? I am due to leave as section chair in July. I have enjoyed the position most of the time. My least favorite time is the required "asking" that I have to do to have people volunteer to support you as members when you need to take a certification exam, provide a certification review course or ask about some help from HQ. Frankly, I do not have enough volunteers to fill next year's board. I need more. We all have demanding workloads, pressing family needs, and not enough time to do everything that we want to do. Without your support, we cannot provide you the services that you have come to expect in the past. Will you help?
